GLUTEN FREE SINCE JANUARY, 2007

In 2001, I had lost 64 lbs for my 50ith birthday present to myself with Dallas’s guidance and was enjoying my early fifties, feeling fit and strong. However, somewhere in my mid-fifties, my body and my health began to change. My skin had lost some of its elasticity; In 2005, I had pneumonia that left me with residual asthma and requiring meds/inhalers; I had bronchitis/sinusitis frequently; I had shingles in my right eye (scary stuff); I had been diagnosed with a tiny nodule on my thyroid and had developed chronic eczema (dermatitis herpetiformis) on my wrists, forearms and elbows which were unsightly and easily irritated by my massage lotions (I am a massage therapist). The doctors treated each problem with meds and basically dismissed it all as part of the post menopausal normal aging process. However, I knew that I did not go from feeling great one day to feeling lousy the next without a REASON!!

Thank goodness, one of my client’s (thank you, Doug) recommended a nutritionist, Dr. Bernadette Saviano, and she rocked my world by ordering me to stop eating gluten immediately and forever…..and I did!! So began my recovery, building back up my immune system, day by day, month by month, and year by year correcting all those health problems caused by a protein named GLUTEN FOUND IN CERTAIN GRAINS (and frequently added to many processed foods). By the end of my first week of eating gluten free, my eczema DISAPPEARED and returns only when I am accidently exposed to gluten. It took me several weeks of detoxing the gluten out of my body before I began to physically feel stronger and increase my energy level. Because I no longer was ingesting dairy and my immune system was getting stronger, my bronchitis and sinusitis became became a rarity! Over the course of a couple of years of healing, I finally was able to discontinue the use of my inhalers. My fifties were feeling fun and fit once again. Dallas was watching my gluten/dairy free journey and adapting it into his DDPYOGA program.

During my first year of my recovery process, I received another disappointing diagnosis after falling off a small ladder and getting a bond density test...I had severe osteoporosis in the Left hip…due to the gluten having destroyed some of my villa in my intestines therefore not allowing me to absorb my calcium. More serious meds…but I knew that if I NEVER ate gluten and continued to exercise, eat healthy and take great supplements that I would build back my bone density and over time I DID!! Shocking my doctors but not my nutritionist or me! I now have osteopenia and am no longer on meds. Thank goodness DDPYOGA kept me flexible so when I did fall off that ladder, I did NOT break my hip. (Flexibility is the fountain of youth!)

If you have gluten intolerance or celiac disease in your family or carry these specific genes, and/or have been diagnosed with autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis (a chronic disease of the skin), diabetes, or complain of bloating, reflux, frequent indigestion, diarrhea or have diverticulosis or irritable bowel syndrome or have chronic joint pain, or fatigue etc….I encourage you to eliminate gluten from your diet for a month and see how feel! There are so many other great WHOLE GRAINS that do not include gluten that you can enjoy! EAT REAL FOODS AND NOT PROCESSED ONES! EAT RAW WHEN YOU CAN AND GIVE YOUR BODY ALL THOSE GREAT ENZYMES! Keeping gluten to a minimum may keep YOU FROM TURNING ON THOSE GENES SHOULD YOU BE CARRYING THEM!

My 2 best lessons learned from my gluten experience is: 1: NEVER GIVE UP–PUSH THROUGH YOUR CHALLENGE AND DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEY SAYERS BUT RATHER TURN TOWARD THOSE SUPPORTING YOU! MY FAMILY AND MY DDPYOGA FAMILY KEEP ME FOCUSED AND DETERMINED TO EAT HEALTHY!!

LASTLY: EVERY BITE OF FOOD THAT ONE PUT’S IN ONE’S MOUTH HAS PURPOSE..IT DOES GOOD OR IT DOES HARM…..THE CHOICE IS YOURS AND I THINK THAT YOU ARE WORTH YOUR EFFORT!!

Please take the time to learn about foods, your body and how it functions and teach it to your children. We know everything about our favorite TV shows, sports teams, music BUT OUR OWN BODIES…HHHMMM!!! We want to live in a great house or drive a cool car but THE ONLY HOUSE IN WHICH WE REALLY LIVE AND OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION IS OUR OWN BODY AND WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND, FUEL, AND PROTECT IT. OUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT:))
